Dorrigo

Can’t believe the weather – the heat and humidity just won’t let up!!!!  And that is the last time I am going to say it – EVER! – I don’t complain any more because everyone is sick of hearing me comment on the heat….

Next summer………..will be different!

‘Dorrigo sounds nice’ 768 metres above sea level and 30 km from Bello……It’s like going back in time – old country town, the occasional tractor driving through, and old ladies going out for ‘tea’.

Some of the oddities in town are the steam train graveyard – a private collection of massive proportions!  Juan’s Cafe Del Fuego & World’s Smallest Motorcycle Museum – it’s a cafe / eatery with a piano you are invited to play, owned by a quiet accented Chillean man…..motorbikes / Dorrigo / Chile……..strange blend……

Then there is the Red Dirt Distillery  & Lick the Spoon……..winery / distillery / deli / cafe……the quietest place to work….a unique spot. Dragonfly Cafe is another cool place – lots of old books and shabby chic decor.  The main building in town is the pub – like any old country town and the Heritage Hotel in Dorrigo is a classic!

A short drive in any direction out of town and you are in the most picturesque countryside I have ever seen.  Voted the best tourist drive in NSW,Waterfall Way (the main road from the Pacific Highway all the way to Armidale) is aptly named and has numerous waterfalls, lookouts, and national parks along the way.
